Tumba College of Technology receives an award from Robot contest which took place in Nairobi-Kenya.


Tumba College of Technology participated in the robot contest which took place in Nairobi-Kenya from 18th to 21st May 2011. The participating teams were drawn from public universities, National polytechnics, Institutes of Technology, Technical Training institutions and Technological colleges. The 2011 National Technology Fair was made possible through the support of Kenya’s ministry of Higher Education, science and technology, JICA Kenya and NIRVANA TECH, FESTO, TOYOTA, TEKNO INTERNATIONAL industries. The theme of the fair was “Science and technology for enhancing wealth creation” The main purpose of the robot contest is to enable students in universities and Technical, Industrial, and Vocational Education Training (TVET). Institutions, private sector and individuals, build and operate autonomous robots for institutionalizing creativity and innovations.Tumba college of technology represented Rwanda and was awarded a micro controller by A German company called FESTO.

A delegation from Tumba College of Technology recommended the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) of Rwanda and Workforce Development Authority(WDA) to collaborate with universities, colleges, and institutions to introduce the robot contest by creating a forum where young Engineers in Rwanda can show their creativity, share information, and promote automation Engineering. Bearing this in mind participation in next year’s robot contest in Kenya or another country would be needful for Rwandans so as to test their level of development of skills in automation and mechanical control technology.
